- VERSION 2.0
- Summary of Features in EXECPCT.EXE
- created by Kyle Cummings, Phil Katz, Bob Mahoney, and others
-
- - - - - - - - - - -
- EXECPCT.EXE is an enhanced version of the PC-Talk communications
- program. This is only a short summary of the features of this
- version. For full documentation you should read:
-
- PC-TALK.DOC - the original PC-Talk documentation
- EXECPCT.DOC - the full enhancement documentation
- EXEC3101.DOC - explanation of IBM 3101 emulation

-
- This version of PC-Talk was coordinated through the Exec-PC Multiuser
- Bulletin Board in Milwaukee, WI., 414-964-5160. Later versions will
- always be available there.
-
- The next page contains a list of features unique to EXECPCT.
- The page after that lists the other features that make it different
- from the original PC-Talk.
-
-
-
-
- Features unique to EXECPCT 1/19/85
-
-
- XMODEM - Phil Katz completely rewrote the xmodem routines in assembler.
- This means your file transmissions will be faster, especially if you
- use floppy disks. For version 2.0, the xmodem will no longer scroll
- off the bottom of the screen.
-
- Color/Music/Graphics - The standard ANSI style color/music is included
- here. This implementation is much less likely to get hung up on invalid
- escape codes.
-
- IBM 3101 emulation - redone by Kyle Cummings. See the file EXEC3101.DOC
- for details.
-
- Complete new main I/O - Phil Katz has completely rewritten the main I/O
- routines that service the communications port and keyboard. This will
- allow the program to handle 2400 baud.
-
- New default pacing of "=X" - you can now put a default pacing option of X
- on an entry in the Dial Menu. This will make all file transmissions for
- that number default to xmodem. If you want to xmit in ASCII, use "=A"
-
- Remote command actuation - Best seen by calling the Exec-PC bulletin board,
- allows the BBS to send commands to your computer. For example, the BBS
- can ask you for just the filename that you would like to download, and
- the rest of the transfer will be automatic. Also allows the BBS to
- set emulation modes automatically. Using this feature, you could
- download the files LUE.COM, LUT.COM and LUU.COM with the following
- command: A;LUU.COM;LUT.COM;LUU.COM Simple!
-
- Stealth Mode - The ALT-B command ("B" for Beep) will completely eliminate
- any sounds that come from PC-Talk. Prompting beeps from both the remote
- computer and from PC-Talk are filtered out. Even music in the color/music
- presentations of bulletins will be silenced.
-
- Quick Dial - The ALT-A command has been added. This is similar to the
- ALT-D dial command, but it does not show the large dial menu. Use this
- command if you know what directory number you want to dial.
-
- New Defaults - The default modem comm parameters are now 1200 baud, 8 data
- bits, 1 stop bit. This is the most popular combination in use today. Also,
- the defaults set in the ALT-F screen will be used in the dialing directory.
-
- Xmodem Receive Cancel - Canceling an xmodem file receive will automatically
- delete that file from your disk. This will keep your disks less cluttered.
-
- Cleanup and improvement of - auto-redial, disk space algorithm, signon
- screen, and various bugs.
-
-
-
- Other Differences from Original PC-Talk 1/19/85
-
-
- FREEWARE(tm) notice and startup screen combined.
-
- Set/Clear ALT 1-0 temporary command, ALT-= changed to SHIFT-TAB.
-
- A carriage return is automatically provided after the modem
- initialization command, eliminating need for } in the ALT-F screen.
-
- Split Screen function, activated by CTRL-HOME. This puts all of your
- input on the bottom of the screen until you hit enter.
-
- Hangup command ALT-H. This hangs up your modem immediately.
-
- The redial routine was rewritten to have a more informative screen plus
- more control.
-
- The strings you assign to the ALT-1/0 keys can be saved and restored from
- a file, just like the function keys. This is command ALT-I and ALT-U.
-
- Subdirectoies are supported, ALT-G.
-
- Disk free space is shown when you use the ALT-V and upload commands.
-
- Comm parameters will be automatically changed to the proper 8-N-1
- when xmodem transfer is activated.
-
- Manual dialing allows you to change the communications parameters.
-
- Plus other small changes.
